Railway company CSX recently recognised 71 customers for their commitment to the safe transportation of hazardous materials with CSX’s annual Chemical Safety Excellence Award.

Vice President of Industrial Products, Michael Rutherford said: “Safety is a way of life at CSX and among our customers, who demonstrate their commitment to safe transportation every day through their partnership on safe operating and securing procedures. Moving products by rail remains the safest possible surface-transportation solution, and we look forward to extending this record of safety for our customers, employees, and the communities we serve.”

This marks the 23rd year for the company’s Chemical Safety Excellence Award, which recognises customers who ship more than 600 carloads of hazardous materials during the year without a release due to controllable factors. The award recognises commitment to safe procedures, such as securing valves and closures properly and safe loading.

In recognition of their continued dedication, Azko Nobel Chemicals and Kemira were both presented with awards for 10 years of success.  In addition, five-year recognitions were given to Arizona Chemical Company; Aux Sable Liquid Products; Cargill; Celanese; CHS; ExxonMobil Chemical; Horsehead; Linde; MarkWest Hydrocarbon; Nucor Corporation; PBF Energy Company; SABIC Innovative Plastics; and United Refining.
