First LNG fuelled truck at Gate terminal

The first LNG-fuelled truck has loaded its trailer with LNG at the Gate terminal in Rotterdam. To achieve this milestone a range of partners have worked to adjust rules and legislation meaning LNG trucks are now compliant with ADR and regulation at terminals.

The first truck was an IVECO Stralis NP400 that has enough power to transport the heavy trailer for Rolande. Until now it was practically impossible to transport LNG in an LNG fuelled truck.

LNG is the most eco-friendly alternative to diesel in the transportation sector and is considered to be one of the most promising alternative fuels for the transition to clean transport.

Gate (Gas Access To Europe) terminal is an LNG import terminal owned by N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie (Gasunie) and Koninklijke Vopak N.V. (Vopak). The growing demand for natural gas cannot be met without an increase in imports so Gasunie and Vopak decided to develop Gate terminal in 2005.

Rolande is a European market leader in the LNG market for trucks. A market in which companies such as Shell, Engie and Total are also active. Rolande owns eight LNG fuel stations in The Netherlands and has plans to expand its network in Western Europe.
