Half a million $ to reduce the risk of hazmat emergencies
The State of North Dakota has received a grant of $516,715 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration that will be used to reduce the risk of hazmat emergencies.
Senator John Hoeven, a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, said: “It’s important that we have planning and preparation in place so that we can quickly respond in the event of a hazmat emergency. North Dakota can use the funding for a variety of emergency preparedness efforts, including training hazmat emergency responders, developing or updating emergency plans and analyzing potential hazmat exposure risks.”
Senator Heidi Heitkamp said the funding will be provided through the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.
She said: “Our brave first responders play a critical role in responding to hazardous materials incidents – and we owe it to them to make sure they have the resources they need to be prepared for emergencies.”
