New CEO of DB Cargo appointed


A Board Member at DB Netz AG, Roland Bosch has been appointed to the role of CEO of DB Cargo and will assume his new position at the helm of Europe’s leading rail freight company this month.

Board Member for Passenger Transport, Freight Transport and Logistics at Deutsche Bahn, Berthold Huber said: “Roland Bosch is an outstanding colleague and an experienced rail manager, and I am very pleased to have him as the new CEO of DB Cargo. With his international background and deep knowledge of the interfaces and interdependencies between infrastructure and rail operations, he is the ideal choice. His knowledge offers an outstanding basis for making lasting improvements to quality and reliability at DB Cargo, and he will also be focussing in particular on establishing a healthy economic foundation for the company.”

Roland studied physics in Oxford and business in Tübingen, where he received his doctorate in 2000. During his undergraduate and graduate studies, he also began his career at the Boston Consulting Group in 1997. In 2002, he joined DaimlerChrysler in Stuttgart as the head of strategy, before transferring to Beijing in 2005 as CFO for Northeast Asia. He was appointed CFO of DB Netz AG, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, in October 2010. Since 2013, he has served as the Board Member for Production at DB Netz AG.

He is responsible for ensuring that 40,000 trains can travel safely and reliably in Germany each day. In recent years, he has also focussed in particular on managing the implementation of the largest modernisation programme in the history of Deutsche Bahn.

As the CEO of DB Cargo AG, Roland will be responsible for some 30,000 employees in 16 European countries. He will succeed Dr Jürgen Wilder, who chose to leave DB Cargo in late October by mutual agreement with the company.
