$100m Puerto de Matamoros development plan

A development plan with an overall investment of $100m has been outlined for Mexico’s Puerto de Matamoros. The plan includes construction of a multipurpose terminal.

Ricardo Correa, Director of Administración Portuaria Integral de Tamaulipas, said: “We already have three companies that have registered. Now we are deciding what qualifications will be set, so that they will be able to put forward technical and economic proposals.”

The actual tender will have been issued by the end of August.

Ricardo is reported to have said that interest in the project can be put down to the strategic location of Matamoros as it is close to areas of deep water.

“It is on the occasion of the Energy Reform, and to be in a position to meet the demand for supply services to all offshore platforms to international companies that were awarded blocks in the Tamaulipas coasts in the Gulf of Mexico, the truth is going to generate a lot activity, not only for Matamoros but for ports such as Tampico, Altamira and even further south “, concluded the API Tamaulipas Director.
