Australian Maritime Safety Authority to host IMO 2020 Roundtable

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and Maritime Industry Australia Limited (MIAL) are meeting this month to continue discussions on IMO 2020 legislation. The meeting will take place on Tuesday 25 September in Sydney, and will be hosted by Viva Energy. Viva Energy are one of the largest energy companies in Australia, working across the country.

The meeting aims to ensure that Australian ships, ports, refineries and fuel suppliers are ready ahead of the global implementation of the IMO 2020 regulations. This will enforce a global cap on Sulphur content used in ship fuels at 0.5% in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. The regulations were first suggested by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in October 2016.

The September roundtable meeting will be the 4th session held by the AMSA and MIAL. Topics will include how to support implementation, scrubbers, the IMO’s guidance on the development of a Ship Implementation Plan (SIP) and more.

Registration for the event has already closed, however the AMSA will be publishing the results on the AMSA website. This also includes the results of past meetings, as well as ongoing discussion points leading up to the January 1st IMO 2020 deadline.
