Black & Veatch’s PRICO© technology completes GPT aboard FLNG vessel

Black & Veatch’s patented PRICO© technology has successfully completed its Guaranteed Performance Test aboard Golar LNG’s Hilli Episeyo, marking another major milestone that reconfirms Black & Veatch’s leading role in providing floating liquified natural gas (FLNG) solutions for growing markets.

The Hilli Episeyo is the world’s first FLNG vessel developed as a conversion project from an LNG carrier. Moored off the coast of Cameroon, and having recently offloaded its sixth LNG cargo, FLNG Hilli Episeyo clearly demonstrates the value of Golar’s quick-delivering, low-cost alternative to land-based solutions.

Commissioning works on the Hilli were executed at a rapid pace, obtaining first LNG 46 days from the initial introduction of gas on 25th January 2018. Golar went on to secure commercial acceptance from the customer on June 2, effective May 31.

Black & Veatch successfully completed its Guaranteed Performance Test on August 12 (154 days from first LNG), for all four of the Hilli Episeyo’s PRICO© liquefaction trains, demonstrating their ability to meet customer demands for continuous and efficient production. Black & Veatch’s PRICO© technology uses a single-mixed refrigerant loop for natural gas liquefaction – a process that provides several key benefits including requiring minimal equipment, scalability and a compact process footprint that makes it ideal for offshore liquefaction projects.

“Completing the performance testing aboard the Hilli Episeyo is the latest evidence of the benefits our PRICO technology provides for floating LNG solutions,” said Bob Germinder, Black & Veatch Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Floating Oil & Gas Solutions. “We can deliver reliable liquefaction for clients wherever they need it – on shore, near shore, or off shore.”

Golar LNG CEO Iain Ross commented: “The crew are becoming increasingly comfortable with the facility, which has achieved 100 percent commercial availability to date. Lessons learned during the conversion, commissioning and from operations to date will be invaluable for the next FLNG project, which is also expected to utilize the same Black & Veatch technology.”

FLNG solutions are a cost-effective and rapid-delivery alternative to traditional onshore facilities, which is particularly crucial in natural gas’ current low-price environment. Black & Veatch has grown its relationship with Golar since 2011, going from concept and front-end design to design and commercial delivery of FLNG vessel conversions.
