DB and UWC sign agreement for supply of articulated flat cars for heavyweight containers

Within the framework of the International Railway Fair PRO//Motion.Expo, United Wagon Company (UWC), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars, and Deutsche Bahn (DB), Europe’s largest railway operator, have signed an agreement for UWC to supply 110 articulated flat cars for transportation of heavyweight containers built to run on 1,435-mm gauge lines by November 2020.

The Sggrs six-axle container cars have a length of 80 feet, a loading capacity of 108.6 tonnes and are able to safely transport ISO containers, tank containers and swap bodies with a gross weight of up to 36 tonnes in various size categories.

Considering the first contract made between DB and UWC in 2018 with UWC to supply 160 Sggrs80 articulated container flat cars in the first half of 2020, the Russian company will have to deliver a total of 270 freight cars.

In August 2019, United Wagon Company has completed its 80-feet container car prototype sending it for TSI certification tests that are expected to be finished by the end of 2019.
