EFTCO shows commitment to cut plastics pollution with affiliation to clean scheme

The European Federation of Tank Cleaning Organisations (EFTCO) has signed up as a partner for the Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) PlasticsEurope initiative.

OCS is an international programme designed to prevent the loss of plastic granules (pellets, flakes and powders) during handling by the various entities in the plastics value chain and their release into the environment.

Multiple cleaning stations are involved, which can reduce granules during the tank cleaning process. Plastic pellets are one of the biggest global pollution disasters, according to EFTCO. “Not only can pellets create plastic pollution, the goods labels and seals can create plastic waste, which has to be avoided.”

OCS is committed to developing a certification scheme and EFTCO is currently assisting the European Chemistry Industry Council (CEFIC) in adding this detail into the SQAS questionnaires.

The goal is to avoid additional assessments and use SQAS as the key audit to cover different categories.

It is EFTCO’s recommendation to all of its members and associated cleaning stations, to sign up to the OCS. This will improve EFTCO’s reputation and will show the willingness of the tank cleaning industry to cooperate with other organisations.
