Mabanaft acquires Avon Lodge Truckstop

Mabanaft acquires Avon Lodge Truckstop

Mabanaft Ltd. has acquired Avon Lodge, which it described as “one of the leading independent truckstops in the UK”, in a statement.

This is the second truckstop Mabanaft Ltd. has taken over, following the acquisition of Junction 29 in August 2019. It said “the acquisition is in line with the trading company’s objective of establishing a nationwide network of independent truckstops.”

Mabanaft Ltd. is a subsidiary of Mabanaft GmbH & Co. KG. The company has 55 years of experience trading in the UK and is one of the country’s largest independent fuel wholesalers. With a network of independently operated fuel terminals Mabanaft Ltd. is uniquely positioned to supply fuel to the UK market.

Mabanaft GmbH & Co. KG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Marquard & Bahls, an independent holding company active in the energy & chemical sector. Mabanaft is involved in the wholesale logistics, supply and trading of oil and gas products worldwide and owns and operates an extensive portfolio of retail assets.

Avon Lodge is of strategic importance as it is located on the outskirts of Bristol and close to the M5 motorway, the main traffic artery in England’s southwest.

The truckstop offers facilities for drivers and vehicles, including a truck wash, bunker facilities and secure overnight parking for 65 trucks, as well as showers, a café, lounge and shop.

Mabanaft said the success of the facility is a credit to previous owners, Brian York and Richard Ollis: “Through their vision, knowledge and management skills, Avon Lodge has become a benchmark facility in the industry.”

Martin Cook, Managing Director Mabanaft Ltd, said: “We are pleased to diversify into truckstops, starting with the acquisition of Junction 29 last summer and now with the purchase of Avon Lodge. We intend to develop a portfolio of truckstops strategically spread across the UK. This will strengthen our presence in the commercial fuel market and help develop new revenues outside the fuel market, such as parking, AdBlue, driver hospitality and truck wash”.

Peter McCarthy, Business Development Manager at Mabanaft Ltd, added: “Mabanaft is a family business and we operate with the same care and ethos as many truckstop owners with whom we are in negotiation. Our aim is to continue to provide customers with the same high level of service and support that they currently receive”.
