Mott MacDonald appoints Liz King as Managing Director for Africa

Mott MacDonald has appointed Liz King as Managing Director of its business in Africa, succeeding George Rennie who has retired after a successful career with the company spanning 36 years. Liz will be responsible for the for the day-to-day management and operational performance of the business in Africa where it currently operates in countries across the continent.

Liz is a chartered engineer, fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and joined Mott MacDonald more than 35 years ago. Most recently she was Managing Director of the consultancy’s business in India. Prior to moving overseas, she was based in the United Kingdom and managed Mott MacDonald’s integrated transport business, which supported customers to connect local and international communities through multi-modal transport. Earlier in her career she worked in the area of structural durability and repair for multiple clients on operations, critical maintenance, repair and strengthening strategies. Employee ownership drives Mott MacDonald’s culture and Liz chairs the company’s Shareholders’ Committee, which comprises senior employees along with two independent members. On behalf of the employee shareholders, the committee is responsible for oversight of the executive board’s performance.

Mott MacDonald’s heritage in Africa stretches back to the heightening of the Aswan Dam in Egypt early in the 20th century. The company has staff based in around 20 countries across the continent and has been hugely successful in drawing on its international capability on infrastructure and built environment projects as well as international aid funded projects. A regional hub has been established in Johannesburg by Mott MacDonald where senior staff provide leadership across all six of the company’s core delivery sectors.
