PESO launches paperless licencing for road tankers


In what is a significant move towards becoming paperless, The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in India has launched a paperless licensing process through the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), aimed at road tankers for transportation of petroleum under the Petroleum Rules, 2002.

The Commerce and Industry Ministry said in a statement that paperless licencing through PESO will apply for issue for road tankers, commerce and industry ministry, Petroleum Rules, petroleum and gas industry.

It added that this will also include online payment of fees, (which will go directly to the concerned officer’s ID without any manual interface). The launch is aimed at road tankers for transportation, “with a view to promote ease of doing business”.

The process will include filing the applications online. Applicants, at each stage of processing of the application, will be intimated through SMS and e-mail, whether discrepancy, grant of licence, or approval.

The applicant will be updated at every stage of the process via email and SMS. When the licence is granted by the officer concerned it will then be dispatched electronically

This process will not require any printing or physical dispatch. Furthermore, the authenticity of the licence will be verifiable through a public domain on PESO’s website. The ministry said “this automation is going to revolutionise the petroleum and gas industry”.
