Port of Rotterdam ‘working on the future’

Port of Rotterdam ‘working on the future’

The Port of Rotterdam (along with its industrial complex) has released a statement to say it “has a strong position”. Furthermore, it said: “The growth markets such as containers and distribution are developing positively and the new markets such as LNG and biofuels are expanding.”

It said the financial picture is also “upbeat”, but added a note of caution with regard to what it described as “developments around the world”, both at a national level and within the port. It said it was “responding actively to those developments” through its strategy and focusing on impact.

As to how it aims to do this, it said: “Not only do we come up with initiatives, we also implement them in collaboration with clients and partners. As an independent party, we are eager to assume our responsibility for driving these processes, calling in external expertise and forging strong coalitions.”

It also described Rotterdam as “an ideal place for innovations in areas such as the energy and digital transitions”. We are grateful for this development, which boosts our confidence in a sustainable future for the Rotterdam port and industrial complex”.

Allard Castelein, the CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, said that in 2019, it invested €338.3 million in, among other things, making the port more accessible, safer, more efficient and more sustainable.

Looking forward, he said the port is working with “declining markets in the fossil industry and new business models that generate opportunities”.

First step into the future:

Elsewhere, DHG and the Port of Rotterdam Authority recently signed a contract for the allocation of 30 hectares on Maasvlakte Distribution Park West.

Port of Rotterdam said in a statement that DHG will develop a warehouse complex of no less than 210,000 m2 on the site – its launching customer will be Odin Warehousing.

Odin will rent at least 120,000 m2 for the storage of conventional goods. Port of Rotterdam said that ss soon as the planning permission is in, DHG will start the construction of the complex.
