Shell selects Calgary-based start-up Quasar to provide railcar visibility and analytics

Quasar, an end-to-end supply chain visibility platform developed by Cando Rail Services, has signed an agreement with Shell Canada to implement the full Quasar platform within Shell’s Sulphur business.

Shell said the Quasar platform will significantly reduce Shell Sulphur’s supply chain costs.

Quasar said it combines real-time tracking with powerful data and analytics to optimise supply chain performance. The agreement with Shell involves the installation of Quasar Lenz sensors, as well as full access to the Quasar platform to perform visualisations, mapping and analytics.

“Our solution design strategy for Shell Sulphur starts with using the Quasar platform to capture real-time GPS location data,” said Corrie Banks, general manager of Quasar. “The insights gathered from the real-time data will give Shell Sulphur visibility and control over administrative issues, rail network system challenges, and dwell across the network, as well as track GHG emissions and further qualify opportunities to reduce cost and increase cycle time.”

He added: “With Quasar’s cloud-enabled data, insights, and analytics, you can identify opportunities and make informed decisions to improve operations and reduce costs. Quasar gives you the tools you need to make your supply chain more fluid, reliable, and efficient.”
