Sovcomflot participates in Shanghai LNG Forum

An SCF Group delegation headed by Igor Tonkovidov, Executive Vice President and CTO/COO of Sovcomflot, took part in the Shanghai LNG Forum, which was held in China on August 7. The conference was attended by speakers representing major LNG producers and transporters. The forum agenda focused on exploring the LNG industry’s trends and growth opportunities.

Igor Tonkovidov spoke during several discussions on the prospects for LNG as a marine fuel, transporting LNG using the Northern Sea Route, and the construction and operation of icebreaking LNG carriers. He presented the results from the first year of operating a pioneering series of LNG-fuelled Aframax crude oil tankers.

Sovcomflot’s drive to introduce cleaner-burning LNG as a primary fuel, for large-capacity tankers, has been commended by industry experts. In 2018, SCF Group won an Environmental Award – Individual Company category at the Lloyd’s List Global Awards. In 2019, Gagarin Prospect, the lead ship in the ‘Green Funnel’ vessel series, won the international Marine Propulsion Award for Ship of the Year 2018 and the Nor-Shipping Next Generation Ship Award.
