Suttons Tankers encourages responsible driving styles

The Driver League is an internal scheme, implemented by Suttons Tankers since February 2017, to monitor and encourage safe, efficient and environmentally responsible driving styles.

From aggregating the data received at every point in driver’s journeys each week we are able to create and share with them an overall ‘driver efficiency score’.

Eight different factors are considered in generating a driver’s efficiency score: Idling, Speeding, Harsh Acceleration, Harsh Deceleration, Accelerator positions, Cruise Control, Coasting, Green Band Driving.

Each of these factors are monitored and graded with a percentage which is converted into a grade between A-E (Grade ‘A’ being awarded for above 80 percent efficiency in that factor). All the grades are then aggregated to give a final ‘driver score’. Over the last 12 months there has been a 10 percent improvement in the number of drivers achieving an ‘A’ grade, with the overall average for each driver being 79 percent efficient.

This system, coupled with Suttons’ extensive defensive driver training courses, allows us to target areas that individual drivers can improve or become more efficient in; ensuring they our driving safely for themselves and the general public.
