The President of the Energy Regulatory Office has met with the Chairman of FERC

On December 4, the Energy Regulatory Office held a meeting devoted to, inter alia, methods of detecting and preventing manipulation on the energy market, development of the LNG sector in the USA and Europe, and renewable energy sources.

“Considering the REMIT regulations and the current practice of the Polish regulator in its implementation, as well as the growing importance of the energy trading on the wholesale market, the opportunity to exchange experiences with our American counterpart cannot be overestimated,” said Rafał Gawin, President of the Energy Regulatory Office.

“We pay special attention to changes in electricity prices on the wholesale market and activities of market participants in terms of phenomena that could exhaust the signs of manipulation or attempted manipulation,” he added.

“I am looking forward to this dialogue with our Polish regulatory counterparts and the opportunity to share our experiences. Overseeing the delivery of safe, affordable and reliable energy to consumers who trust the credibility of our work is fundamental. Given the huge intersection between energy and security issues, we will also discuss the importance of protecting the vital needs of energy consumers,” said Neil Chatterjee, Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

The visit was an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss the best practices and intensify the effectiveness of regulators in the light of the changing market environment and growing challenges related to, among others, global climate policy. The Energy Regulatory Office belongs to the international organisation ERRA (Energy Regulators Regional Association), which is a platform for the exchange of experience and allows its members to access the current knowledge and practice of other regulatory bodies around the world.
