Van den Bosch celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Bergen op Zoom container terminal

Since 1998, Van den Bosch Transporten has handled the storage, transfer and handling of various bulk goods from the transshipment terminal at the Theodorushaven in Bergen op Zoom. In 2018 the container terminal turns twenty years old. “And we are still in full swing”, says Site Manager Ronald Hamelink.

The transshipment terminal at the Theodorushaven is full of containers that are delivered or removed on request. “On an average day we count about 750 to 1000 containers here”, says Ronald. The containers are filled with bulk goods, mainly with raw materials for the plastic industry. A team of around twenty employees takes care of the (temporary) storage and delivery of these raw materials. Various shuttle services have also been set up. In this way, in addition to the container transport, a constant discharge of the packaged ‘finished product’ is ensured, for example in the form of bags. “We ensure 24/7 that the logistics activities in and around the premises of our customers are optimal,” explains Ronald.

Various investments are planned for the coming period. For example, the current reach stacker, which is used for container handling, will be replaced by the new Kalmar DRG450-60S5 K-motion. It is equipped with the most recent applications in the areas of safety, noise and consumption/emissions. “Our employees are the driving force behind the container terminal,” says Ronald. “They are all professionals who work daily with a lot of enthusiasm and passion. Most of my colleagues have been working here for years and I am proud of that. We are going to celebrate the anniversary together.”

Ronald is planning to further expand the shuttle services in the coming years in order to keep pace with the growing demand for logistics activities in and around Bergen op Zoom. “Our ambition is to provide all on-site logistics for our clients. From the supply of raw materials to the storage and transhipment of goods and the removal of the packed finished product. In addition, the added value lies in our flexibility. Because we are also physically present on location, we can quickly switch and completely unburden our customers in the field of logistics. We have been making sure that ‘it’s going to happen’ for twenty years and we will continue to do so.”
